Work package 2 (WP2) – Physical separation methods for the recovery of valuable components
The main objective of WP2 is to develop a physical separation process that goes beyond the state-of-the-art, capable of processing fine IBA at reasonable costs at industrial scale. The process development will be focused on:
- recovering up-concentrated fractions of ferrous and non-ferrous metals from fine BA,
- improving environmental quality of the mineral fraction of fine BA to enable its valorization in construction applications
Following physical separation methods are being investigated in WP2 (Figure 1):
- gravity separation,
- magnetic separation,
- eddy-current separation,
- electrostatic separation,
- froth flotation,
Partners active in WP2 (ICPF, PS, VITO and INDAVER) carry out investigations with fine IBA sample coming from Waste to Energy plant (WtE) located in the partner’s region. Therefore WP2 runs in parallel as Czech (ICPF and PS) and Flemish case (VITO and INDAVER).
